Investor Visa

The Immigrant Investor Program is a government initiative aimed at helping business investors and their families gain entry to Canada by making an investment in the country’s economic development and fuelling job creation. To meet the government criteria for the Immigrant Investor Program, you must, among other things:
• have world wide net assets of at least CDN$800,000;
• have a minimum of at least 2 years managerial experience;
• be prepared to either:
(a) invest CDN$400,000 for a period of five years with the Government of Canada, which will be repaid (without interest) at the end of the five year period. The return of the investment is fully guaranteed by participating provinces and territories. The exact date of repayment depends on when the $400,000 is received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. At the latest, the amount would be returned five years and 3 months after the date of payment.
or
(b) make a one-time, non-refundable payment of approximately CDN$120,000
Features of the Investor Program
• Investors are not required to start a business in Canada;
• Investments are fully guaranteed by provinces and territories that participate in the program;
• The provinces and territories control the investment during the five year lock-in period; and
• No immigration conditions are imposed upon admission to Canada.
Financing Options Available
If you do not wish to make the full CDN$400,000 mandatory investment, our firm is able to arrange a financing option for you. Our firm has entered into agreements with various Canadian financial institutions, including the National Bank of Canada and Cornwallis Financial Corporation, and as such we are often able to obtain financing of up to CDN$280,000 for our clients who qualify under this program. Under the financing option, you would make a total investment of only CDN$120,000, which you agree to forfeit, in exchange for receiving financing for the remainder of CDN$280,000, interest free, for the mandatory five (5) year term.
Advantages of Financing:
• Limit your investment to as little as CDN$120,000
• You need only CDN$120,000 of liquidity as opposed to the normal requirement of CDN$400,000, while still meeting all of the requirements of the program
• Free up the monies that you are not required to transfer for other investments
Investors must have business experience. They must have either:
1. managed a qualifying business and controlled a percentage of equity of a qualifying business for at least two years in the period beginning five years before the date of application, or
2. they must have managed at least five full-time job equivalents (defined as 1,950 hours of paid employment) per year in a business for at least two years in the period beginning five years before the date of application.
